Friend or Foe? Exploring the opportunities and impact of ChatGPT

Friend or Foe? Exploring the opportunities and impact of ChatGPT In-Person / Online

How disruptive is artificial intelligence (AI)? According to AI expert Kai-Fu Lee, the impact of AI will be “more than anything in the history of mankind.” If AI is truly capable of performing a wide range of intellectual tasks, what does it mean for university students and educators?

ChatGPT, an enormously popular and powerful conversational AI, continues to dominate headlines after its recent release in November last year. Questions abound as ChatGPT proves to be as intelligent as humans in a variety of academic activities, such as passing exams and authoring academic papers.

In this session, we aim to discuss the nature of ChatGPT, evaluate its strengths and limitations, examine the benefits and risks of using ChatGPT in university settings, and explore how we should respond to ChatGPT as the field of AI evolves rapidly and disruptively.
