Global English - Greenwich In-Person

Global English is a series of workshops designed to help you improve your spoken and written English, in everyday use and in your academic work.

Join Dr Paul Brewer in a series of 6 interactive workshops to practise and develop your speaking and writing skills for studying in a friendly, welcoming environment. These sessions take place in Stockwell Street Library, in the Academic Skills Hub on the First Floor.

  1. Life in the UK (Friday 6th February) - Introduction to English Language use in cross cultural situations.
     
  2. Formal and informal English (Friday 13th February). Formal and informal vocabulary and when to use these different types of English.
     
  3. Writing in English (Friday 20th February) - a closer look at written English in academic settings. Improve your writing for Essays and brush up your writing for professional purposes, including email and letter writing.
     
  4. Presentations (Friday 27th February) - increasingly presentations are becoming key to demonstrating your knowledge and skills. This session will focus on academic presentations, helping you to develop strategies for speaking in formal settings.
     
  5. Grammar Part 1 (Friday 6th March) - Exploring typical structures for academic writing - tense and aspect; voice (active/passive); Strategies for self-improvement and practice. 
     
  6. Grammar Part 2 (Friday 13th March) - Exploring typical structures for academic writing - articles, prepositions. Strategies for self-improvement and practice.
