Global English Online

Global English is a series of workshops designed to help you improve your spoken and written English, both in everyday terms and in your academic work.

Join Dr Paul Brewer in a series of 6 interactive workshops to practise and develop your speaking and writing skills for studying in the UK. 
These online sessions take place via Teams. To register to attend, please sign up by clicking the Begin Registration button

  1. Life in the UK (January 31)  - Introduction to English Language use in cross cultural situations.
  2. Formal and informal English (February 7). Formal and informal vocabulary and when to use these different types of English.
  3. Writing in English (February 14) - a closer look at written English in academic settings. Improve your writing for Essays and brush up your writing for professional purposes, including email and letter writing.
  4. Presentations (February 21) - increasingly presentations are becoming key to demonstrating your knowledge and skills in a particular subject. This session will focus on academic presentations, helping you to develop strategies for speaking in formal settings.
  5. Grammar Part 1 (February 28) - Exploring typical structures for academic writing - tense and aspect; voice (active/passive); Strategies for self-improvement and practice. 
  6. Grammar Part 2 (March 6) - Exploring typical structures for academic writing - articles, prepositions. Strategies for self-improvement and practice.
