The Academic and Digital Skills team are seeking to change the culture surrounding academic offences by encouraging students and staff to cultivate an approach that champions academic integrity.

Join us for the Student Voices: Integrity Matters event, an open and honest discussion on what academic integrity means to you. Find out from fellow students and staff about the best academic practices, how to avoid committing academic offences, and why we should celebrate our academic community. Together we can create a positive culture of academic integrity.

10:00-11:15am Celebrating your academic community

In this session we consider what a degree means and the reasons why a university education is valued across the world. We will consider the behaviours and expectations of being a part of an academic community, how we learn from each other, synthesise, and contribute to the collective thoughts of a community, and the importance of acknowledging the work of others.  

Hear from students about the expectations they have for their future, share their stories of pride and happiness.

11:30am- 12:45pm Developing your academic voice 

Your voice is unique, use your time at university to develop your voice through your learning, research, and discussions with academics and students.  

This session will consider the importance of developing your own voice both academically and professionally. We will discuss the significance of authority and trustworthiness in all that we say and do to establish ourselves as reputable and reliable. The current focus will be on how we develop these skills and character traits while at university and the actions and behaviours that can compromise these both during our studies and into future employment.

13:30-14:45pm Managing your time; an employer perspective on professional expectations in the workplace 

“The key is in not spending time, but in investing it” – Stephen R. Covey. Managing our resources is vital to a stress free and effective life both academically and professionally and we need time to do this well. In this session company directors, Laura Martin and Jason Plunkett share their views on time-management from an employer’s perspective and highlight some strategies and tools to better organise our time. The session will cover techniques for managing time effectively while discussing the potential impact of letting time run away from us in terms of our personal wellbeing as well as the potential for falling into dangerous and unprofessional shortcuts.

15:00-16:15pm AI in your academic studies

In this session you will hear the university position on the use of AI in academic study. Students tell us they want to use AI ethically and safely, without committing academic offences. Hear from our expert panellist on what the University expectations are and about the services in place to help you develop your digital capabilities to navigate the use of AI for study. Meet our student panellists who will share their firsthand experiences of using open AI in their academic work.
