Session 1 (11 November 2024) 

What do we mean by academic integrity? 

This session will explore what we mean by the term academic integrity and why it is such an important feature of university life.  We shall also consider the issue of plagiarism and other forms of academic misconduct and why these should be avoided in order to get the best out of your studies. 

 

Session 2   (18th November 2024) 

A word about AI 

This session will consider the issue of artificial intelligence tools and how AI tools can be used in study.  We shall look at how such tools should be employed and what practices should be avoided.  We shall also consider how to reference the use of AI tools and how to get the best out of AI. 

 

Session 3   (25th November 2024) 

What can I do to avoid academic misconduct? 

In this session, we’ll consider what can cause people to take shortcuts and stray into areas of academic misconduct.  We shall look at issues of managing time, reading and note making strategies along with the importance of seeking understanding when trying to write. 

 

Session 4  (2nd December 2024) 

Effective Paraphrasing 

In this session we shall look at the challenges of taking the words of another author and then trying to craft these into your own words (paraphrasing).  This is never easy but we shall look at how to go about this more effectively because this is an essential skill in academic study. 

Session 5 (9th December)

How to insert references in your work

This session will look at how to insert references in your work using the Harvard referencing system.  We shall look at how to reference books, chapters in edited books, academic journal articles and websites.  We shall look at how to construct in-text references and how these should look in your reference list.
